My name is Bill Fett. I am located in North Central Iowa by the small town of Nora Springs. I started raising sheep in 1988 for my 4-H project. I raised Suffolk sheep and won many awards at the local and state level. After graduation in 1997 I started selling club lambs. I sold the last of the Suffolks in 2014. I use to raise Purebred Romanov and Ile-De-France sheep. I sold the Romanov sheep and as of 2022 I am raising only Purebred and Fullblood registered Ile-De-France sheep that are OPP free. I lamb in February into March with the exception of a few yearlings in April and May. My purebred ewe genetics all trace back to Stephanie Mitcham’s (Crane Creek Ile-De-France) stock and a few include genetics from one ram’s semen that was imported by Terry B. from Illinois. Stephanie Mitcham (Crane Creek Ile-De-France) was (prior to 2022) the only breeder in the USA with 100% fullblood Ile-De-France stock due to importing embryos many years ago. There are breeders around that claim to have purebreds and they are not. Ask lots of questions about their original ewes and the purity of the rams they have been using. An example is a blue #580 ram lamb that I bought in 2019 from Chad Hasbargen (Hasbargen Land & Cattle) that I found out wasn't purebred. 15/16 or 93.75% is considered purebred for the Global Animal Registry (Facebook) where you can check out breed standards. All my ewes will be mated to my imported RR rams from Canada.
On 9/14/22 I imported 32 ewes and 5 rams from Karen Bannow (Georgella Sheep Farm) of Canada and on 9/19/22 I imported 3 ewes and 1 ram from Keith Todd (Todd Sheep Company) from Canada. They are 100% fullblood registered stock. They are registered with the CLRC in Canada. Check out the website at www.clrc.ca to see pedigrees of all my imports. They are all scrapie codon RR and OPP free. I am excited to be raising and selling Registered Ile-De-France sheep. I will be selling Registered Ile-De-France rams and Registered Ile-De-France ewes starting with my 2023 lamb crop. The ewes have 12 different sires and with the 6 rams will allow me to produce genetics that will allow you to keep coming back for new bloodlines for many years.
We started the American Ile-De-France Sheep Association and hired Associated Registry to do the registrations. We are registering in 3 separate categories. Fullbloods, Purebreds (31/32) and percentages. Look at www.associatedregistry.com and www.americanile-de-francesheep.weebly.com for more information.
